Writing about books, food and slow weekends

A slow winter morning

1 Apr 2026

There is a bakery on the corner that opens before sunrise, and I have become a regular. It reminded me how much I enjoy doing one thing at a time. The recipe is simple, the trick is to be patient with it.

I keep a short list of things that made the day better, and this one made it. Nothing dramatic happened, but I came home in a much better mood. If you have a favourite version of this, I would love to hear about it someday. Most of the afternoon went by without me noticing.

I took the long way back, past the old houses near the water. By the evening the light was soft and everything looked a little kinder. I wrote a few lines in my notebook and then simply watched people pass by. It is funny how the smallest routines end up holding the whole week together.

The first attempt was a small disaster, the second one was surprisingly good. A friend recommended it years ago and I finally got around to it.
